SONGWRITING CONTEST FEEDBACK

Kat White – The lyrics are sophisticated and clever. It’s a catchy song with a good hook which would be great to hear fully produced in the studio. It’s a really engaging song for the audience.

Adam Duffill – It’s a lovely flowing song, perhaps going forward you can be more distinct with your delivery. You have a little American and David Gray twang going on, you need to find your own sound. A well-presented song though.

Juliette Kelly – Remember to look up and perform more with your eyes. The song has a lot of emotion and it’s easy to connect and relate too! It felt a little wordy in places though. Great delicate voice.

Lostboyfound – Nice flowing song and very easy listening which would make it very radio friendly. The end verse “I’ll be there when you fall apart” is over used and needs an edit and/or changing of the lyrics. Nice melody though.

Laura Greaves – Lyrics are strong and work well, but it needs better dynamics to drive through the chorus, click here for advice on musical dynamics. The song would benefit massively from your performance stage craft being more experienced which with more performance can be achieved, click here for some tips on performing on stage.

Stella Hensley & Chris Newman – Guitar work is exceptional with the dynamics he adds. Song wise it is very easy on the ear and an easy listening radio friendly potential hit.

John Christal – Song has lots of potential albeit a little depressing. Watch the mic control as that is affecting your projection levels, click here for tips on microphone technique for singers.

Jess Kemp – The lyrics and diction wasn’t clear so we had trouble hearing what you were singing about. Stomp box gave it some drive. Really enjoyed the melody of the song.

Hannah Louise – Perform as much as you can as this will make you even better on stage and convey the expression of the emotion in the song. You were routed to the spot, click here for some tips on performing on stage. Song is catchy and flows well albeit a little repetitive.

Tom Auton – Clean vocals and sharp lines, this has the potential to be a hit song. Good songwriting- really enjoyed it!

FEEDBACK FOR THE SONGWRITING COMNTEST GRAND FINAL

Charlotte Swarbrick – Good song and lots of potential, perhaps needs a little more edge though. Also dynamics wise, let it breathe for a bigger impact on the chorus and hook lines, click here for advice on musical dynamics.

Rupert Embleton-Smith – The song has real potential, but the singer really struggled on the high notes which is the hook. You could have visually brought a lot more on stage to give a real performance.  Nail this singer and you take the song and performance to the next level. Also consider an edit to some sections of the song.

Jayne Snow – The song felt a little dated in style, so look to give it a modern twist. A country feel without really going country.

Nubienne – Commit even more to the performance. Great breakdown with the rap section. It would perhaps benefit from a vocalist coming in for the singing sections and you then go to backing vocals to the main line. Nice vibe, but felt it went on a bit too long.

Simon Lyon – A great song we can all relate to. Loved the backing on the bass. After initial impact the song could do with some clever flowing lyrics rather than a loose message.

Lewis – The song is decent and catchy although  a bit dated, try and put more of a modern twist on it to make it more current. Really enjoyed the vocals. Try work on your stage image more.

Siobhan Anderson – Would always avoid playing over a backing track as it is almost impossible to be completely in time throughout. You needed to let the song breathe to give more impact to the chorus and give you the opportunity to swing the dynamics, click here for advice on musical dynamics.

Rioja Jacques – Catchy song that has a great hook. The verses could probably work better if they told the story and it would engage you more on the chorus. Also edit it down more as it has a chorus or two too many.

Terence Foley – Watch your mic control as you are losing your projection, click here for tips on microphone technique for singers. Song wise think about the dynamics more as it took a long time for a breakdown and you forced the song for the majority of the song  up to that point, click here for advice on musical dynamics.

Mike Donaghy - Great harmonies and support on backing vocals. The backing instruments were tight and appropriate.

Mark Cousins – Such a sultry silky vocal along with the ability to convey expression! Lyrics are great.
